The individual boards are as follows:
Abercrombie: The humblest of all the boards, Abercrombie has lovely features in his maple strips and a gorgeous even color in the canarywood. He has a small dark pinhole in one canary square, upper left / upper right (see photo). Price: $85
Benvolio: Lord Montague’s nephew, and Romeo’s cousin, Benvolio is a flawless specimen, the reason these boards were created. He is a flawless mix of well-figured maple and canarywood, the delight of any modern coffee table. Price: $85
Charlize: This handsome game board invites you to expect the unexpected. Stitched from different sections of the same canarywood board, her dark squares run the gamut from lightish dark to darkish light. This is a color difference that only really showed itself in the finishing stage, but she’s a lovely board nonetheless. Price: $85
Dasheill: Dashiell has some lovely bird’s eyes in his maple sections, and a good mix of figures in his canary. He has one small pinhole through his very outside edge, something we thought might come off in the final shaping. Despite this flaw, he is a handsome and perfectly functional game board. Price: $85
Ermintrude: This powerful game board is an enigma wrapped in a mystery. She features natural dark streaks in two of her maple sections, and interesting color variance in her canarywood that is only apparent on one side. Despite this, she is a joy to be around. Price: $85
Fitzgerald: Fitzgerald’s maple sections are pieced from smaller sections, a trick that we hoped would be less visible. These slightly different pieces of maple took dramatically different color from the finish, lending a slight three-color look to Fitz and his siblings. Price: $65
Grant: Grant’s maple sections are also pieced together, but he hides it better. He is best known for his “ears,” a book-matched set of gorgeous knots in the canarywood that can act as conversation starters, as well as good listeners. Grant hears you, and he accepts you as you are. Price: $65
Hyram: Hyram’s maple squares are also pieced together, though you wouldn’t know it without close inspection. His main flaw is an inch-long pinhole running along one of his canary squares (see first photo, at bottom). This didn’t show up until the final step, of course. We’ve patched this hole with filler, but it’s still there. Luckily, it only shows on one side. Price: $45
