Fish Cook is a decidedly simple game with a quirky theme. You’re all chefs, competing to make the most money (and acclaim) by cooking the best recipes with fish.

Each morning you’ll visit the Farmer’s Market and the Fish Market, shopping for the best ingredients (or at least, the cheapest ones). Then you’ll spend the evening cooking your fish. You might use an old family recipe, something you learned at school, or even a dish you stole from another player!

Fish Cook was part of a short series of white-box games in 2013 called the “Spring Three,” and we had every intent of making a fully deluxe version in 2020, had we not sold Cheapass Games in 2019.

Now the game is back in our hands, and we’d like to share the version we have now. This is almost the same game, in a print-and-play format. You can also buy the board and cards from DriveThruCards.

Fish Cook

Fish Cook is a simple economic game for 2-6 players, featuring robust market economics and simulated intellectual property theft. The fake back story traces the game’s roots to a hundred-year old French Game called Claude Hubert la Criée, through various iterations and tributes, through a Japanese holdnig company’s unauthorized 1994 edition, all the way to the Cheapass Games catalog in 2013.

In truth, we made it ourselves. But that’s boring.

Buy the Game: Here are the pieces we offer for sale. You will also need some basic components, listed below).

Game Components: We also have a totally free print-and-play version of Fish Cook. The printable components of Fish Cook are the boards, cards, and rules. There Is also a set of printable tokens, if you’d like to upgrade your own basic colored tokens.

Generic Components: Along with the components above, you will also need:

  • Money, about $200 per player;

  • Counters in six colors matching the farmer’s market (or the token sheets above)

  • Twelve 6-sided dice for the fish;

  • Ideally, at least one more die for the farmer’s market, better still a set of six in matching colors;

  • One Chef Token to indicate the first player; and

  • An extra die or other means of tracking the day
