Light Speed

Light Speed is a real-time spaceship battle card game designed by Tom Jolly and James Ernest.

As fast as they like, players take cards one at a time from their 10-card decks, and place them anywhere on the table. When the first player is out of cards, the game is over!

Players then work out the results of the battle, with faster ships firing first, and each shot damaging whatever it hits. friend or foe.

Light Speed is the ultimate combination of simple, fast, and fun.

Light Speed was first published by Cheapass Games in 2003, under their Hip Pocket Games imprint. There have been several editions, translations, and variations, including a 2024 version by Tablescope, Light Speed Arena, which uses an app to play out the results of the real-world card game.

The Crab Fragment edition below is just the humble card game, with the original art by Eduardo Muller, repurposed from the 2003 edition. In fact, the rulebook is exactly the rules from the 2003 Hip Pocket edition. The deck includes five 10-card fleets (enough for up to 5 players) and four Asteroid cards.
