So Much is Coming Soon

It’s a card game! It’s a rich tapestry of backstory! It’s both but really just a card game!

It’s November, and many game projects are creeping towards completion. Here’s a snapshot of the goings-on at Crab Fragment Labs.

Convention, Ho! James Ernest is gearing up for his first game convention in a long while, GobbleCon. It’s in San Francisco on Thanksgiving weekend, and that is basically his deadline for all the things mentioned below. James will shoulder a bag stuffed with new games to test, and display an eagerness to interact with fellow humans that might at first be more energetic than they can handle. This is basically our first game convention as Crab Fragment Labs, so it’s pretty exciting. James even ordered new business cards.

Vines: Vines is a suite of trick-taking games that we really like, so we’ve spent extra time and care on production. That meant ordering a set of 20 face card illustrations from Cheyenne Wright, and crafting a completely unnecessary backstory that helped Cheyenne decide what to draw. Now we have finished the deck art, and uploaded the test files to DriveThruCards. We hope to receive proof copies before James leaves for SFO, but it’s dicey because during the holidays they can take a few weeks. And now that the art is done, we’d normally be posting the cards and rules for the first wave of games, but some other stuff has to happen first! Other stuff like…

The Verdigris Pawn: This new book by Alysa Wishingrad is the inspiration for our latest super-secret game project, an adaptation of the game of Fist. For the past few months, James has been working with Alysa to create a playable version of this game-from-a-book, which you’ll be able to play with your own chess and checkers pieces. The beta rules are being drafted now, and we’ll have a live page around November 10.

Copper Creek: This tile-placing game, about building an Old West town, is still in development and nearly ready for a beta release. We want to have it in a playable state by GobbleCon, but since it doesn’t require ordering any proofs, we get to do it at the last minute. This means (hopefully) that you’ll see print-and-play files for Copper Creek just before Thanksgiving.

New Shirts! Because James wanted something new to wear at the convention, he has created four new Crab Fragment shirt designs at our Zazzle Store.

Is that all? No! There’s more! So much more! But it’s all that will fit in a single update. So please like and subscribe and so on, and keep playing games!
