Picture Day
There’s nothing like updating your head shot to make you feel old.
I have a very nice 40mm F2.8 portrait lens for my Canon EOS M50 (above), which has become my studio camera because it has WiFi, so that I may perform my labors in darkness and solitude.
This lens catches everything. Stray hairs, spots, blemishes. Stuff I can’t even see in the mirror. I guess it’s something of a blessing that one’s eyes deteriorate along with one’s looks.
But Photoshop, it can see these things. And then it can erase them.
I’m shooting this photo because it’s January and I need a new head shot. Specifically, KublaCon asked me for it, so they can post something more recent than last year’s bio, which apparently was quite a bit older than last year. It still had me running off to my 2006 job at Microsoft.
I learned this in a casual conversation at the con. “Shame to hear you’re shutting down your company.” “Well, really, Greater than Games is taking it over.” “Oh, I see. I hope you will enjoy Microsoft.” “Wait, what?”
A conversation about a convention bio that’s 13 years out of date can also make one feel old.
Anyway, behold the healing powers of Photoshop.
